Middlesbrough-based rappers record song about poverty
by Andy Passant, Evening Gazette
Nov 17 2011
TWO Teesside-based rappers are hoping to make people think with a song about poverty.
Ibrahim Sory Diallo and Alan Joshua Tshabalala are both originally from Africa but now living in Middlesbrough.
The 16-year-old Middlesbrough College students perform under the names Mr Ajad and AJ.
Ibrahim, who is from Guinea, and Alan, from Zimbabwe, have now recorded a song called Poverty.
Ibrahim explained: “We have made a song about Africa.

“We are seeing kids dying, people are starving.
“We thought that if we made a song about it people would listen.
“We want to make people think. We have written it and recorded it.
“We are hoping to make a video for it and we are looking for sponsorship.

“I have spoken to some of the record companies in London. I have just been sending demos.
“I don’t know what is going to happen yet.”

The song can be heard on YouTube.
Ibrahim says music is “my life” and he is hoping to turn that passion into a successful career.
He has moved on with his life since making the headlines last year.
The Gazette reported how he had been kicked out of a Middlesbrough school when council officials mistook him for a 23-year-old.
Middlesbrough Council removed him from Acklam Grange School after concerns were raised about his and another boy’s age.
The council took the decision as they believed the pair were posing as teenagers.
Ibrahim proved his age was correct and was able to continue his studies at college in Middlesbrough.
