I am sure his family will miss him greatly. I am just as sure that the hyocrites will come out in full force with their comments too.
Dierdre says...
He was also on record as NOT wanting the expense claims of MPs to be made public.
AZZIZZ says...
He is also on record as DEFENDING the claims made by MPs, referring to the problem as a very small minority, this on the politics show, then shifted his stance later as public opinion grew, and the lid was blown off by the Telegraph revelations.
As to the hypocrite comment, I also recall Stuart Bell's stance with regards to Mallon standing for Mayor along with the full page adverts against Mallon.
How does one measure hypocrites?

Mr Mallon have you wiped from history that Sir Stuart took out a full page article condemning you when you running to be the mayor. Never a truer word was said.
Dierdre says...
These people are politicians - what more would you expect?
Elliottsmithgirl says...
Can we please remember that this man has died today , if you dont wish to show Stuart respect please respect his family. My Mother "God rest her soul " told me we should never speak ill of the dead ! . I had my own issues with Mr bell as a politician but today is not the day to vent anger . thoughts and prayers with his family . RIP

Want a definition of hypocrites, you just made one
elliotsmithgirl SAYS...
Dying does not change anything, no one is speaking ill of the dead, people are speaking of what was the living, what would you say as to Jimmy Saville then
Dierdre says...
Nobody is angry and nobody is speaking ill of this man, we are only stating facts and/or opinions. Perhaps Elliot has rules for one and rules for another. Look at all the many famous people who have died - much is said about them afterwards, be it good, bad or both. Why should Mr Bell be an exception? Why does the article not mention his first wife and did he not have 2 children, a boy and a girl?
frankyboy says...
I agree with Elliottsmithgirl. He died today, for heavens sake. If you didn't like him, had issues with him, etc, etc, then fair enough, but can you not just can it for a short while and show a little respect, even if just for today?
AZZIZZ says...
The present cannot change the past.
Two important dates in your life
The arrival date of birth and the departure date of death.
Between those two dates is a dash 1/1/1 - 2/2/2 the most important bit is that between the two dates the dash. . . .^ . . That is what is the measure of how you have conducted yourself in life and how you will be ultimately judged.
it is only a little mark the dash but with a massive impact on everyone you come into contact with, think about it.

I hate sanctimony

RIP and I do hope that the Boro will get an MP who will look after us. I do not however think that this will happen.

I never respected or liked the man....that was so with most local politicians....we will get what we deserve as a replacement...voted in by the Labour mafia sheep.
Dierdre says...
Myra Hindley was as evil as they come - is someone saying we should not speak ill of her?
Claude Ted says...
Sad that he died but I'm afraid the hypocrites are the ones that do not speak the truth. Bell wanted to sweep the expenses issue under the carpet, they pretty much did that anyway. Too few were prosecuted, amazing how many simply made 'errors' & Mr Bell wasnt shy about claiming expenses though not illegally. He also failed to hold a surgery in his constituency for 17 years claiming he was threatened with assault. I never saw any publicity at the time & anyway many people doing jobs get threatened, police, firemen, nurses, doctors etc they don't simply pack in! I shudder to think what candidate this Labour Party will choose for Middlesbrough.
Dierdre says...
It will be a local solicitor I am told by the name of Andy McDonald. The same local solicitor who helped put Ray bMllon where he is and the same local solicitor who held a party at his home to celebrate Mr Mallon's victory over their own Labour candidate -in 2002 - Mr Mallon attended the party as did many of the current labour cllrs. I am also told that this FACT was reported to Labour head office who simply turned a blind eye to it.
