Was it the mother’s upbringing? Was it the “I’m alright Jack attitude”?
Is there a friendly Middlesbrough Councillor in the house to assist the plight of this mother? Can these parents expect fast track help from MBC?
Middlesbrough woman and husband deny abandoning daughter
by Andy Passant, Evening Gazette Sep 8 2012
A TEESSIDE woman and her husband have denied abandoning their two-year-old daughter while they sat boozing at a cafe in Portugal.
Police have alleged they found the toddler on her own near a busy road while her parents were drinking nearby.
But Colette McPartland, from Middlesbrough, and her husband, Stephen Street, have strongly disputed the police version of events.
And they have pledged to fight to get their daughter back. The little girl has been taken into care.
Police said they were called to reports the child was alone in her buggy in the village of Carcavelos, near the capital Lisbon, at about 8pm on Tuesday.
It is claimed her parents were later found in a nearby cafe.
In a statement on its website, the Policia Seguranca Publica (PSP) said they were in a state of intoxication.
But the couple, both said to be English teachers, reportedly told a neighbour: “It’s all lies. We want our little girl back.”
Mr Street’s father, Ray, 70, said: “I just can’t believe it. My son is not a drinker and my daughter-in-law doesn’t drink.
“She is a lovely little girl and they wouldn’t do anything to harm her.”
Colette is from Middlesbrough while Stephen is originally from South Wales but had lived in Saltburn.
