Every British household was £299 worse off last year because of contributions to the European Union budget - here is a breakdown of numbers

The average British family paid out £672 to the European Union in 2010 £10.5 billion - total contribution, up by £3.8 billion or 56 per cent

2005 - year Tony Blair agreed to cuts of British EU rebate, but phased in from 2010 to 2013. 1984 - year Margaret Thatcher won the rebate.

£672 - amount average British family paid out towards EU in 2010.

£373 - amount average British family got back.

£171 - shortfall, which has more than doubled from last year.

£2.9 billion - amount Poland paid out in EU contributions.

£10.2 billion - amount Poland received in return.

£12 billion - British payments by 2014.
