Villagers out in force against Boosbeck abattoir plans

HUNDREDS of villagers chanted “Jingle Bells Slaughterhouse Smells” as they protested against plans to reopen an abattoir.
More than 200 people broke away from their seasonal celebrations to take part in the demonstration in Boosbeck.
Boosbeck Against Slaughterhouse (BASH) organised yesterday’s event, which saw residents march through the village, near Guisborough, with banners and placards saying the abattoir would “kill our village”.
Police attended the protest as residents sang their own version of “Jingle Bells” as they marched behind a trailer carrying Santa.
“Jingle Bells, slaughterhouse smells, we don’t want it here,” they sang. “Get it stopped, and planning dropped, and we’ll have a Happy New Year.”

I watched a video of a cow being slaughtered in the Halal fashion, never ever again will I eat beef, lamb or any other animal this could have happened to. It was beyond cruel. If a non halal slaughterhouse killed an animal without firstly stunning it, they would be fined or even closed down - so I find it amazing that an animal can be killed in this country in an illegal fashion in the name of a religion that doesn't even belong here. It is the same with the kosher slaughterhouses, they should be closed down or made to conform to the law.
