“Not worth making a special visit to Middlesbrough for”

Sadly despite costing more than £15m MIMA doesnt offer enough to draw visitors especially to the town for which is a shame as it was designed to help regenerate Middlesbrough. Architecturally it is quite impressive but the gallery space seems underused and you would have to be a modern arts fan to appreciate what little is there. It was also designed to house the towns existing arts collections but they are in storage so if you are more historicaly minded then Dormans museum by Albert Park is a better choice. MIMA has a gift shop which appeared to be doing a slow trade but the coffee shop does good quality refreshments.
Overall its worth a look if you are already in town but otherwise I wouldnt bother.
