Thousands of public sector workers are striking ‘dubious’ backroom deals that allow them to collect pension payments at the same time as their salaries, Eric Pickles warned yesterday.
The Local Government Secretary promised a crackdown on the practice of ‘double dipping’.
It allows local authority executives to claim early retirement to collect a lump sum payout, only to slip back into the same taxpayer-funded job afterwards.
Such moves are often hailed as cost-cutting measures, since senior staff are rehired on lower salaries.
