Ray "The Mellon" Mallon

And now for something completely different

Mayor of Middlesbrough Ray “The Mellon” Mallon world famous visionary:

Mallon's visions explained

He’s NOT The Messiah, He’s a very naughty boy!

August 19, 2012 by rocklifferover

It had to happen sooner or later. Mayor Mallons had yet another of his spectacular visions! He’s seen into the future and has unveiled his all-new bright, shiny master-plan for the town. God help us all!!!
On Saturday, we were treated to the latest pile of propagandist tripe, spoon-fed by the mayors office to the Evening Gazette.

Back in January, the Gazette highlighted 2020Vision, a campaign to show what both public and private sector organisations hoped would be the future for Teesside. Middlesbrough Borough Council were notable by their absence from the free pullout issued by the Gazette on January 23rd.

I suspect that, since I pointed out that maybe it was better that MBC keep schtum about their under-achievement at the time, the mayor has actually had someone working on this since that time. So, here we are, seven months late and undoubtedly many, many council / PR department man-hours later, we are treated to Rays Vision for Middlesbrough Mk III IV V VI ??!!

Now the words ‘Mallon’ and ‘Vision’ in the same sentence usually draws one of two reactions; guffaws at his previous track record with such visions, or a look of impending dread… from knowledge of his previous track record with such visions!

I’m not saying he’s got a reputation for failing to predict the future, but I wouldn’t take racing tips from him to one of the many bookmakers on the high streets of ‘Casino-Free’ Middlesbrough. Ray has proven that, even when he holds the reins of all the horses in the race, he still can’t predict the winner. Usually, because there aren’t any! His ‘Visions for Middlehaven, Gresham, etc., – none of them have crossed the finish line and they’ve been running for years. Maybe this time, his prediction should be that we’ll all lose out?

Some of the goals that the latest document outlines really do spell out the actual failure of Mallons council during his tenure. The Gazette tells us that:

“The council’s vision added that it will prioritise improvements in maths and literacy to address below average levels of education.” and “Middlesbrough ranks fourth nationally as having the highest percentage of schools failing to meet Government standards, according to the latest data issued by the Department for Education.”

An admission that, for years, Middlesbrough Borough Council and Mayor Ray Mallon have overseen the under-education and under-achievement of the towns children. And the officer responsible for education when, recently, it was revealed that 40% of our children leave Primary School without the average level of reading and writing ability for their age, didn’t get the sack, as you would expect. Mayor Mallon promoted this person, Gill Rollings, to the role of Chief Executive!!! It seems that, the worse you are at your job, the higher you rise in Mallons hierarchy, until you get to the top, where you mooch for a couple of years then disappear with a big bag of tax-payers cash as a ‘negotiated severance settlement’.

The council want to create “A safe, clean, healthy town“? What are we paying Council tax for now? If MBC are saying in this document that Middlesbrough isnt safe, clean or healthy, then 1) we’re due a tax refund for services not supplied and 2) this underlines that the last thing that Cleveland needs is a Labour-lapdog Police Commissioner, if a Labour council, which includes the Labour candidate for the commissioners role, are currently overseeing a town which they themselves regard as ‘unsafe’.

And, most worryingly, “A town that continues to transform“. This one sends a chill down the spine, as the word ‘continues‘ implies that the same ideology of destroying historic buildings in favour of modern eyesores, eradicating any evidence of the towns successful past, will prevail.

And where will the funding for this amazing vision come from?

There are no more Labour government grants to rattle the MBC begging-bowl at, Labour spent all the money and maxed out the national credit card before they left! This is really Ray Mallons way of saying that we can forget any hope of a Council Tax freeze if the government repeat the offer to cover a 2.5% rise again. He needs and wants to rob our wallets to fund yet another of his failures.

Get ready for the mother of all Council Tax hikes next year. More outrageous Labour-style spending from our Labour-supported mayor. Middlesbroughs Labour- controlled council, making sure you stay deprived, so they don’t have to be!
It’s going to be a very interesting meeting on September 5th…
