Last night Mr Pickles told the Daily Mail: ‘It is the height of hypocrisy that you have chief execs at Labour-run authorities awarding themselves bumper pay rises whilst subjecting their staff to a pay freeze.

You don't need a chief executive of a Town Hall - you need a Senior Town Clerk. Stop giving them 'corporate' names - they are public servants, supposed to be serving the public, and I mean the majority, not the minority which most councils seem to believe they should do. Get rid of the outreach workers, the climate change activists, the equal opportunity manager and their staff. It is time to pull the belt in, and cut the cloth accordingly. Go back to being called Town Halls, clerks etc. and get the front line jobs back in place. Britain is full of filthy towns and cities, fully of filthy pavements, roads, and dirty buildings. Rubbish is strewn around, rats running around, people spitting because they think it is the norm. Clean the place up by employing more folks to the front line, and get rid of the administrators (oh and cut their sick time down, their flexitime down unless they clock in and out).
