Teesside Grasslands

Post by BoroBot »

LARGE areas of a rundown estate in Stockton are to be grassed over once houses are demolished - in preparation for future redevelopment.
The work, approved by Stockton Council’s Cabinet, forms the next stage of the £5.5m regeneration plans for Stockton’s Parkfield/Mill Lane area.
Since 2006, the council has been acquiring and demolishing the first of 263 terraced houses in the area around Buchanan Street, Dean Street, Tarring Street and Worthing Street to prepare for its regeneration.
But the ambitious scheme was left in limbo when the Government unexpectedly cut its Housing Market Renewal (HMR) funding last year.
After funding dried up, Stockton and other councils successfully lobbied the Government for help. In response, the housing minister offered a transition fund to move stalled projects forward in six areas across Teesside, including £1.52m for the Parkfield/Mill Lane area.
