Homeland security
Responding to threats efficiently, cost effectively and innovatively
Security is a burning issue for every state. In the context of international tensions and the increased threat of terrorism, national and international homeland security authorities must respond efficiently while maximising their productivity, introducing innovative technologies and managing their costs intelligently.

Cleveland Police Authority has become the first customer of Steria's shared services offering that is targeted at UK police forces.
The authority is spending £175m over the next decade on shared services and expects £50m in savings in that time.
The deal is the first of its kind for Steria, which is targeting a shared services model at police authorities across the UK.
Cleveland will be the first police body to use Steria to share services such as finance, HR, payroll, commissioning and fleet management in Steria's dedicated datacentres. When other forces are signed up they will use the same infrastructure.
The £50m cost savings come from efficiencies but there was no redundancies.
A total of 470 civilian staff at Cleveland Police Authority moved to Steria with more than 200 remaining at the police authority.
Steria was up against Capgemini and Reliance in bidding for the contract.
Sean Price, chief constable at Cleveland Police, said the deal aims will save time and money, and "will positively impact the services we can provide to local residents".
Steria already works with half of UK police authorities through its Storm command and control system.
John Torrie, CEO at Steria UK, said the deal is the first of its kind for Steria and is part of a wider public sector push. "We have been in the police sector for over 30 years but police authorities have not outsourced as much as they could."
It’s nice to see the MCN Forum active again, although I’m not quite sure how to decipher the choice of threads ‘bumped’ by Borobot and new poster ‘James Bond’ (is it, perhaps, former EG poster ‘Big Harry’?)
One thing MCN seems keen on is the use of FOI. So, I decided to take a look at http://www.whatdotheyknow.com, a website which both enables you to send a Freedom Of Information request to your chosen public body and also displays the request and result permanently on their website. Impressed with the ease of use, I’ve submitted my own to Cleveland Police Authority, which you can both view and follow here.
‘Dear Cleveland Police Authority,
I would like to know which members of Cleveland Police Authority,
past and present, were involved in the approval of the deal to
place ‘back-office’ operations in the hands of Steria and which
members of the CPA were in favour of this deal. I would also like
to know if any members of Cleveland Police Authority, past or
present, declared an interest which may give cause to a conflict of
interests, regarding the appointment of Steria.’ http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/c ... _steri/new
